Now don't laugh about this...
but it's a very important fact that natural treatments for high blood pressure only work- if you do them!
The Benefits Of Treating High Blood Pressure Naturally Are Huge!
Not only will you avoid or limit your use of medication with all of the bothersome and sometimes serious side-effects, you can get rid of habits and things that bring disease to your body. You will gain an increased awareness of how to keep your body in top condition. Not only does natural treatment of high blood pressure, give you control of your health again, it is fun and do-able! Especially with great resources such as Alive Inn, Health Retreat to help.
Here they are, natural cures to reduce high blood pressure but be sure you read the causes for high blood pressure before you continue with this page. It makes these simple natural cures make more sense.
1) Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day.
This hydrates your body, decreases the stickiness of the red blood cells, and allows the blood to flow more easily through your body.
Special Note: People who have kidney failure can not tolerate even normal amounts of water. Be sure to follow your physicians’ recommendations for fluid intake if you have kidney failure.
Another benefit of using water as part of a natural cure for high blood pressure cure is that water affects you much the same way that a diuretic would work to reduce your blood pressure. Simply stated that wherever water goes, sodium must go too. In other words, by giving your body adequate water you are forcing your body (kidneys) to eliminate sodium (otherwise called salt). Sodium is a chemical known to cause high blood pressure in many people, see number two on this page.
By drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day you also are jump starting the third remedy by increasing the number of trips you take to the bathroom! But don't worry, your body will adjust. If you want to minimize this, just work up the number of glasses of water slowly, over several weeks.
2) Reduce your sodium intake to not more than one teaspoon of salt per day.
This does not mean that you just don’t add salt to your food. If that is your plan you will be sure to fail. No one wants to eat food that tastes bad. That is why reducing salt takes an education. You must learn where sodium is hidden.
Food labels will help you with achieving this. 100% of the daily value listed on the food label is equal to one teaspoon of salt. So if the label says, 50% of your sodium for the day, that means one serving is a ½ a teaspoon! Avoid things in crinkly bags (like chips) and watch out for canned soups and pre-prepared foods. Eat your diet as close to natural as possible.
This is not an especially hard remedy but it does take some determination. The amazing thing about initiating this remedy is that it can reduce your blood pressure in only days. However, learning to eat this way and still enjoy your food can take months! Even more importantly, the only way you will succeed is to reset or change what your taste buds think is salty. You can do this slowly and tortuously or we recommend an accelerated program for determined people who need to immediately improvement their blood pressures. Here is a helpful article- How to eat low sodium and thrive! It isn't easy at first but your taste will change and your health is worth it!
3) Exercise is a must.
Begin to increase your exercise by walking at least three days per week. If you are a sedentary person you will want to start slow. You may only be able to walk five minutes at first but you should gradually increase to where you exercise 45 minutes three to five times per week. The benefits of this inexpensive remedy are three fold. First-exercise reduces stress which can increase blood pressure, Second- exercise helps move circulation and prevent your system from becoming sluggish, Third-exercise opens up the bodies circulation not only in the big vessels but it opens up small vessels enabling the blood cells easier access. And Fourth exercise burns calories, boosts our metabolism and builds muscles which use more calories than fat which leads us to the next remedy…
4) Adopt a diet that is both satisfying and health promoting.
Lets face it, eating is one of the most powerful natural health cures we can use. Three and sometimes 4 or more times a day you put substances into your mouth that will either improve or worsen your health. Food has the potential to be the most practical and powerful medicine we can take!
An ideal diet for someone trying to reduce blood pressure is the Biblical Daniel Diet. One of the main benefits of this diet is that it helps take and keep off extra pounds for those who are overweight. What is important to remember is that when you make diet changes they are changes that make sense and are sustainable. Keep in mind that a the Biblical Daniel Diet is not sustainable without educating yourself as to how to do it right. This is not a quick fix solution, this is a lifestyle change. Change does not come without education, experimentation and effort. But remember this is a health promoting change! Give it some time and keep learning.
In order to know what type of diet you should use it is important to review the following link:

If you find you have been taking any of these chemicals you may have found the cause for your high blood pressure. It is definitely worth avoiding those chemicals to reverse high blood pressure.
Another absolutely essential part of a healthy, high blood pressure reducing diet is to eat a high fiber diet.
Fiber helps by taking bad cholesterol from your body. Bad cholesterol can cause an increase in blood pressure by clogging your arteries.
Oats, fruit, wheat, lentils, beans & vegetables are all excellent foods to increase the amount of fiber in your diet.
Note that the fiber needs to come from your diet, NOT from a pill or powder. Why do we recommend this? It is because the food that contains fiber, also contains other healing chemicals and nutrients that your body needs to fight the disease process which both causes and results from high blood pressure. This is easily said but not easily accomplished. Many North American adults who eat "good diets" eat less than 10 grams of fiber a day. To eat a diet with at least 30 grams of fiber per day takes some training and effort.
One way you can do it is to purchase some cookbooks that feature foods which are high in fiber. But, probably most efficient and fun way you can learn how this is done is to enroll at our Alive Inn Health Retreat where you will learn how to cook tasty meals that add fiber to your diet naturally!
5) Reduce stress in your life.
It is unrealistic to expect to live a life free of any stress. In fact some stress is beneficial but many people are locked into a pattern of constant negative stress. Plain and simple, many people do not have the emotional and or physical ability to positively cope with the stress they experience on a routine basis. This is where we find the spiritual component of our program is key to regaining and maintaining health.
Click on this link to begin a 13 step process to Spiritual Renewal.
Why is Spiritual Renewal an important component of stress reduction? Because a living, loving relationship with your Creator gives ultimate peace and security. While other relationships are important, the relationship we have with God helps us to prioritize what is important, and what is not. It also gives us a resource that will help us through every stressful situation. Look at this beautiful promise from Scripture:
Psalms 46:1...God [is] our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
46:2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
46:3 [Though] the waters thereof roar [and] be troubled, [though] the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
46:4 [There is] a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy [place] of the tabernacles of the most High.
46:5 God [is] in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, [and that] right early.
46:6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
46:7 The LORD of hosts [is] with us; the God of Jacob [is] our refuge. Selah.
What a beautiful promise that God wants us to claim.
Often in order to connect with God we need to take a rest, have a change of pace. We need a time that we can focus on relationship. That is why our retreat program is located in the pristine mountains of Washington. Not only do we focus on teaching you how to renew your body physically, we focus on renewing your spiritual connection with your Creator.

This is where the fun begins!
You must monitor your blood pressure to see if you are one of the 80-90% who can get rid of high blood pressure by doing the above natural lifestyle remedies.
You should check your blood pressure at least once a week. Some people like to do it more often and that is fine too. Keep a written record. Take your pressure on the same arm every time. There are many places you can have your blood pressure reliably checked. Pharmacies and grocery stores often have blood pressure machines. Be sure you read the directions and if the cuff is too big or to small for you, you will need to have your blood pressure checked by someone who has equipment specifically sized for you.
Keep in mind that most clinics are happy to have you just stop in for a quick blood pressure check by the nurse without charge.
Remember that a good blood pressure is any where from 110/60 to 120/70. A good pulse rate at rest is 60-70 beats per minute.
Athletes with strong hearts can have heart rates as low as 40-50 beats per minute. If you are not an athlete and your pulse is that low you may be on a medication that is slowing your heart too much.

Even good changes can seem daunting at first. So come to one of our 18 day educational health retreats tailored for people who want to learn how to fight high blood pressure naturally. It is an affordable and enjoyable investment- for your health. We would enjoy meeting you as well!
